New cases of avian influenza have been reported in Alabama. The AL Department of Agriculture held a press conference Tuesday (3/14/17) to discuss the new findings. The state veterinarian confirmed that the virus had been detected in three locations in Alabama.

The second case of avian influenza has been confirmed in Tennessee. The TN Department of Agriculture released a statement on its website Thursday (3/9/17). The state veterinarian confirmed a flock of chickens in Giles County, TN, tested positive for avian influenza.

Yesterday (3/5/17) the USDA confirmed the first case of highly pathogenic H7 avian influenza (HPAI) of the year for 2017. The strain was detected on a Tyson contracted chicken farm in Lincoln County, Tennessee. It is the first time HPAI has been detected in the state of Tennessee.

The Indiana State Board of Animal Health (BOAH) sent out a press release today that announced the Final Avian Influenza Quarantine in the state has been lifted. As of May 1, 2016, the last of the infected site quarantines was released and a 90-day free status period was achieved.
